Hi there! My name is Ilya, and I'm a frontend/fullstack software engineer working independently and for hire. I have over 6 years of professional frontend development experience with companies all around the globe. With formal degrees in both art and music, I bring a highly creative perspective to everything I build, blending technical expertise with strong visual and conceptual thinking. My passion for DIY culture and open-source technology fuels much of my work, allowing me to experiment freely, solve problems resourcefully, and contribute to projects that prioritize accessibility and user experience.

My most recent job was at a non-profit organization Recidiviz (which started as a volunteer project at Google), where I worked as a contractor software engineer, contributing to open-source tools aimed at reducing mass incarceration in a safe, equitable, and scalable way. In this role, I collaborated with many great engineers to deliver accessible and reliable user interfaces that support fairer outcomes in the criminal justice system. Being part of an open-source ecosystem allowed me to engage with a wider community of contributors and reinforced my commitment to using technology for social impact. Key projects I worked on included the Recidiviz Dashboard platform, Supervision Success component, Spotlight public dashboard, and Justice Counts initiative.

In 2021 I transitioned to a new role as a frontend engineer in the iGaming sector. Here, I contributed to the development of a modern Gambling platform, focusing on delivering a secure, intuitive, and engaging user experience. My responsibilities included implementing UI components, optimizing performance, and delivering high-quality TypeScript code. I worked closely with cross-functional teams, including product and backend developers, to build features that promote transparency and responsible gaming practices. This role deepened my understanding of high-traffic applications and further refined my skills in scalable frontend architecture.

In 2019, after working on several B2B projects, I received an invitation to join a fast-growing startup software company as a frontend engineer. In this role, I was responsible for developing a comprehensive UI component npm-kit and other frontend solutions for a non-custodial platform designed to manage digital asset portfolios. This position offered a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience with decentralized systems and collaborate closely with a team of professional software engineers. I was actively involved in the company procecces at all levels, especially in the design department. Key projects I worked on included the Exchange platform, the Copy and Paste Widget, and internal Backoffice tools.

Although I had experience creating web solutions, I also enjoyed working with computer networks and hardware, so a System Administrator was the first official job of my choice. That’s how I learned to operate computers starting from the fundamentals. In this position, I worked with Windows Server and Kerio Control solutions; assembled, configured and repaired computers; maintained peripherals; handwired networks and so much more. And my previous experience with the web allowed me to build the clinic's Main Website using techologies such as Wordpress, SQL and PHP. This website is in use to this day, and was awarded with the TIBO-2022 Internet Award in the Health and Medicine category.

My professional journey begins with studying in Polessky State University. That's where I started to learn more about the world of programming and build my first buisness ideas. The main studied programming language was C#, but the first actual B2B project I was engaged with was the commercial website for furniture manufacturer. While working on this project I fall deeply in love with web technologies.
